Review 2/12/2009
I have had a horrible experience with this business, I have had my engine swapped at Henry's place, I guess I was fooled by the very well made website, indicating that it is a family business and so on.I was also lured by a lucrative price of 1000 Dollars as an initial estimate. However, it turned out that the original engine disappeared from Mr. Carters' lot, which was a good running engine by the way. After confronted he offered 300 dollars which is several hundreds below the core value, finally he agreed on 500. There was a large chip of paint that came off wen the exchange engine was installed, nothing was mentioned to me about the accident. It was touched up professionally though afterward, again, after a direct confrontation. However, now the paint shows to be of different color in the region where it was touched up. The worst, the exchange engine, appeared to be smoking like hell, and Henry said I should use some miracle oil product. The car died on the freeway, after I payed the final bill--I believe it was somewhere around 1700, because some heating lines needed to be replaced, and this and that, and so on. Now, that I finally got home I had discovered that the engine/oil filter had not been changed, as I had provided a new one. However, I was charged for a new oil filter. I got suspicious, and I also discovered that the water pump had not been exchanged either, although I had provided a new one. I still have these parts, and I actually sent a picture of the water pump to the German factory, which responded that it was not a brand that GEBA had produced, I had provided a GEBA pump. So, none of my parts were installed, smoking exchange engine, and a car that died on every single traffic light. I decided to take the car to another shop, did cost my some nerves and ruined me financially, but in the end I got a nice running car from a shop that was not practicing as water star motors, and I think I am allowed to use the word fraud in this context. Here is the best, I took Water Star Motors to court in Santa Cruz, and the owner was just lying by saying things such as, "there were no issues with the car when it left my shop." I had provided a very detailed file with over 30 pictures of the car, the parts, the ones that were stolen, comparative pictures etc. Unfortunately, the judge did not discuss a single picture of the provided file, instead she claimed that it was my responsibility if something goes wrong with an exchange engine that I had provided. Which is correct in my understanding, but disregarding and ignoring the fact that Henry Carter stole my filter, water pump, (and I am pretty sure that my original engine just did not disappear from his lot) and sending me home with zero dollars, was a devastating decision, and it seemed to be unfair. However, the entire costs of the engine swap, filing papers, paying the court and so on was about 10000 Dollars, and Mr Carter is still in Business, selling "feng shue" kits at his store, which may solve some mysterious car problems by putting it the thing behind you mirror. I have met 3 other former customers with also negative experiences. I have provide my review t yelp, and other car rating sites but I don't know how Henry and his wife does it, none of the negative reviews remain on the web, the are either removed or at a point where you are not able to access the review, I find this a bit strange? I have nothing to lose anymore, why would I write a bad report if I don't get anything out of it? Well, it is to tell the public to be careful, and I wish that people would have the courage to put their reviews out there--I am almost always the first one to review this business. So please don't remove this report, as it is true and it does not contain any personal offense, and I think my language is not strong either. Ps: One more thing I want to mention, Water Star Motors won the "Green Business Award" a few years ago. Well, it was quite shocking for me when I once came to their Garage and I had to witness how a Jaguar got a radiator flush, whereby the coolant went straight to the gutter, located in front of the shop. I guess we all know where the rainwater goes in a town that is so closely situated to the Pacific Ocean? Dear Clients, be aware, that's all I can say, there are many other good shops in the area, you have to find them, but they are out there. Uwe
