Review 5/29/2010
If I could give this review less than one star, I would.
I would like to share my story of the inferior and disposable product I purchased under the name of Sylvania, manufactured by Funai Corporation.
I wanted to WOW my family for the Christmas of 2008. Trusting the Sylvania name, one I grew up with, I purchased a 42" Sylvania Model LC420SS8 on-line.
The family reaction was worth the $800.00 plus dollars I paid for it. I have had the set 16 months when it began to cycle off, then cycle on, then cycle off, then cycle on, but never stayed on. I looked up reviews of the model and found the majority of consumers had the SAME complaint, with no resolution from the company. I called customer service. Their solution? Unplug the set then replug in after 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, they would be happy to give me the names of a few repair shops in my area that repair Sylvania sets. Trouble is, several of those reviewers that were experiencing the same problem had done just that and found the problem to be a faulty power supply, a cost that averaged between 300 - 400 dollars. Again, no resolution or explanation from the company. This product should have been on recall, based on the number of complaints I have found. Well, I am not WOWing my family anymore, they are now watching a 19in portable since I cannot afford to replace it. My recommendation? Look for the manufacturers name as well as the brand name before spending your money. This one does not produce reliable products. My suggestion to the company? Step up to the plate and recall the sets that you know have received large enough complaints to warrant a recall. Add information in the user manual of your products that provides instructions on how to purchase an extended warranty.
Or, at the very least, those of us who have taken the time to complain be offered some compensation for this troublesome equipment, even if the compensation is not a full refund. And train your customer service staff to find a solution to the consumers problem when the product breaks down and the amount of time the consumer had the product is short enough to consider it reasonable to take customer service one step further and find a resolution that satisfies both.

This customer is being contacted by our new and large unit division. I am told that they have called and left a message, if the customer can call them at 1-866-321-3927, they can assist in a resolution for the customer.
