"DRCM" (AKA Dakota River Creative Media) bans Parents from taking pictures or video of their own kids.
Our kids performed tonight 12/16/2015 at the S.G. Playhouse. Dakota River Creative Media has the Concert listed as "7/8 Grade Winter Orchestra, Band & Choir Concert - JMS 2015" Just before the concert, there was an announcement from the students repeated in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and English... quoted in English: "We have been working hard over the past few months on this concert. We want to put on a good show for you. So please turn off your cell phones. Give us your undivided attention for the next few hours and enjoy this moment. And please don't hold your 'IPAD' up and record us. It takes away from our show... and is destructive to the family behind you. Just buy the DVD if you want to remember this concert. Now sit back and be impressed by what we do. Thank you." Which is fine, no one likes having a 10 inch IPAD in your face. A good number of us are recording and taking photos. I'm approached by a DRCM Employee: Dakota River Employee: "Excuse me. You have to put away your camera." I respond, "Why?" Dakota River Employee: "You have to turn it off.." Me: "What?" Dakota River Employee: "No Video. No Photos. No recordings of any kind..." Me: "Why?" (In a condescending voice): "You've been told three times already..." (She's referring to the Mandarin, Spanish, and English) I can understand the IPAD (which is actually a direct quote) However, Parents were not even allowed to take Photos of their own kids. What the heck? When did our kids become "Dakota River Creative Media" Employees? Is this not a "free" Concert? How the heck are they allowed to Monopolize our kids and charge $25-28 for a DVD of the Concert? I'm not certain of the general consensus, but to me it felt quite a bit like extortion. You force parents to not take photos and video, then charge a whopping $25-28 per DVD? If it's not extortion, it's at the least creating your own Monopoly. It's not even HD. What year is this? 1990? 480P died out a generation ago. If DRCM would like to refute the facts presented, I welcome it. Quotations are word-for-word directly from the bit of video I did record. I hope you guys are more Professional in the Future, and perhaps quote our kids properly in the Future. "...please don't hold your 'IPAD' up and record us..." is completely different than "...You have to turn it off... No Video... No Photos... No Recordings of any kind..." Because, really our kids did not say that in Mandarin, Spanish, and English. Further more, if you tell me "...You've been told three times already..." make sure our kids really said that. Otherwise, when one misquotes, one is a liar. A blatant one at that.
