PLEASE READ THIS!
We booked our move through a company called Long Distance Movers. They subcontract out the move to a company called Rhino Relocation. From start to finish, this move was a complete disaster. I usually don't take the time to complete these reviews, but hope that someone will read this and at least reconsider choosing Rhino Relocation or Long Distance Movers. First of all, the estimated weight/items to be moved was underestimated by approximately 2000 pounds. That sounds like a lot right? It is! Our price was potentially going to increase from an initial estimate of $6200, to $10K. I balked when the movers told me that, the morning of our move, and by the end of the day they informed me I was getting a "great deal" by avoiding the weigh station and paying a flat fee of $7450. We have a one year old baby, and therefore decided to splurge for the option where Rhino relocation packs our items for us. DO NOT DO THIS! This was the most critical mistake we made. It was much more expensive and the way they packed our belongings was unbelievable. It appeared they took drawers of items and literally dumped them in boxes. Many items were unwrapped, breakable items just tossed in a box with NO paper, bubble wrap, etc. to protect. We even had furniture show up without any blanket wrapping protection. All of our dining table chairs were damaged. Our dining table damaged. Mementos that are irreplaceable were broken/ruined. As if this wasn't enough, they also lost items. Yes, the saga just continues to worsen. They lost the hardware for our baby's crib, and also our TV stand mount, as well as as the power cable for the TV. So we had the pleasure of scrambling to replace those items as soon as we arrived to our new home. Besides the total incompetence and lack of attention to how our belongings were prepared for a cross country move, the movers themselves were entirely unprofessional. They asked me to drive them to get lunch the day they were packing us in San Diego (by the way, my Husband is already gone and I am with a one year old baby trying to manage the last leg of our move preparations). The movers that showed up with our belongings in Ohio were also unprofessional and unpleasant to deal with (barked questions at us, and generally unfriendly). When the movers in Ohio were finished unloading the truck, they informed us all of our items were off of the truck. As they drove away, my Husband realized they still had one of our bicycles on their truck. He chased them down the street to get the bike off their truck. Great accountability of what boxes belonged to us versus other people. The driver then has the audacity to ask us for a tip. Ummm seriously? This was the worst moving experience ever, and now you're asking for a tip?! I told him to get lost. My Husband was a little more kind in response than I. Please know, I have moved at least 7-8 times in my life. I have used various companies, small and large. I have moved myself before with a Uhaul truck. I've done it before. I'm no novice to moving. Rhino Relocation and their staff were hands down the worst moving experience I have ever been through. I will do my best to relay this information to anyone I ever encounter who may be moving. Please please do yourself a favor and do not use this company. Or Long Distance Movers, as they are the company that routed us to Rhino Relocation. Final thought: your reimbursement for your damaged items is basically nothing. So no matter how much we list on the claim of damaged items (which we will be completing once we have it all collected), we will likely net a total of $20. I'm pretty sure that is consistent between all movers though, and not specific to Rhino. I hope this helps steer anyone and everyone away from these idiots!
